The classic anime staple of homemade chocolate is easier than you think and will surely impress the intended recipient of your delicious chocolates!
It may come as a surprise but Valentine's Day is a big deal in Japan and this carries over into anime too. In the US, males and females give each other gifts on Valentine's Day. The male is hghly expected to give their girlfriend or wife a gift. It may be something small like a box of chocolate or some can be really extravagant and include expensive items like jewelry. Females usually do something more heartfelt with handmade gifts or something more masculine.
In Japan, Valentine's Day is focused on the female only giving a gift to her boyfriend or someone she is interested in. They also give gifts to their friends, bosses and other people they want to how appreciation to. The romantic chocolate intended for a boyfriend, love interest, or husband is often handmade. Sometimes these chocolates come with a confession of the female's feelings.
Something that is quite unique to Japan however is the follow up of White Day, one month later, on March 14, in which the male is expected to return a gift to the female. It is usually chocolate accompanied by flowers or balloons. If a female gave chocolate to a male she likes, but doesn't receive anything back, it may mean her feelings are not reciprocated. If she does receive a gift in return, there is definitely an interest from the male.
Handmade chocolate does not have to be super complicated with things like thermometers and careful measurements. In fact, these chocolates are so easy, you can use them for parties, gifts throughout the year, or just a treat for yourself. You only need a few ingredients and items that you most likely already have in your kitchen.
